How to Read Annual Astrology: Bazi, Ziwei, and Transits
Core Answer
Start an annual reading by checking the birth record and target year, then separate natal structure, long cycles, annual changes, and monthly timing. Bazi, Ziwei Dou Shu, and Western astrology use different boundaries. An integrated reading should identify what supports a statement, when it applies, where the systems disagree, and which real-world conditions remain to be checked. Agreement does not guarantee an event.
Natal chart, long cycle, year, and month: different questions
The natal chart supplies a baseline. Bazi Luck Pillars and Ziwei decade periods provide longer context; annual and monthly layers describe shorter changes within it. Read from the broader setting toward the shorter interval instead of selecting one fortunate or alarming label.
- A Bazi annual stem or branch must be read against the natal chart and active Luck Pillar. A Wealth symbol alone does not establish a pay rise.
- In Ziwei, natal, decade, and annual palaces are separate layers. A transformation needs its named star, receiving palace, and relationship to the other layers.
- A month-specific indication is not a permanent trait or a statement about all twelve months.
January 1, Li Chun, and Lunar New Year are different boundaries
OpenFate organizes the annual report within January through December of a civil year. That reading envelope does not reset all three chart systems on January 1. A January or February passage may cross different boundaries in each tradition.
- Bazi year pillars use the Li Chun solar-term boundary. Monthly pillars follow solar terms, rather than the first day of each civil month.
- Ziwei retains its own lunar-year, leap-month, and time rules. Its annual boundary cannot simply be replaced by the Bazi rule.
- Western transits move continuously. Planets do not restart together on New Year’s Day; time zones and the valid interval of each contact matter.
Compare the three systems without turning them into votes
Bazi examines stem–branch relationships, Ziwei examines stars and palaces across timing layers, and Western astrology examines transits to natal positions. These are different symbolic frameworks, not three independent experiments. Similar interpretations may suggest a discussion topic; disagreements should remain visible.
- Check whether the signals concern the same life area and the same interval. Three uses of the word “change” are not enough.
- Pressure in one framework and support in another may describe a tradeoff rather than an entirely good or bad year.
- More source records do not make a month automatically better. An unsupported comparison should remain uncertain.
A practical order for reading your report
Read the annual theme first, inspect the main time windows, then return to your own work, relationships, or plans. Coverage of twelve months does not promise twelve fixed chapters or a prediction for every day.
- Confirm the person, birth date, recorded time, place, time zone, and target year. Resolve an uncertain time before treating time-sensitive details as reliable.
- For each important statement, ask whether its source is natal or temporary, when it applies, and whether it is a calculated fact, an interpretation, or context you supplied.
- Turn a suggestion into observable conditions. “Review responsibilities” can mean checking whether duties changed, resources are sufficient, and an agreement is clear.
Reading example: a work-change theme is not a promised new job
Suppose a passage interprets a period as “responsibilities being redistributed.” This is an authored reading illustration, not your chart or a generated customer report. A useful response is to check for new tasks, a management change, or a revised working arrangement, rather than assume you will leave your job.
- Inspect the cited chart fact and its date range instead of remembering only “career turning point.”
- If those conditions are absent, allow the interpretation to be inapplicable. Recasting every small incident as a hit makes the claim impossible to assess.
- A job decision still requires information about the role, compensation, available funds, and your preferences. The reading cannot decide for you.
Separate calculation, traditional interpretation, and AI writing
Calendar conversion, stems and branches, palace placements, and astronomical positions can be compared under fixed inputs and settings. Agreement at that level is different from showing that a symbolic interpretation predicts life events. AI turns the available chart evidence into prose and can still overstate a conclusion, misread an interval, or omit a qualification.
- Calculation: inspect inputs, settings, sources, and boundaries. Charts with different settings are not a clean accuracy comparison.
- Interpretation: look for conditions and counterexamples; check that a temporary signal has not become a permanent personal label.
- Writing: ask whether a citation supports the sentence and whether personal circumstances came from the reader rather than invention.
Which timing methods does this annual product include?
OpenFate integrates Bazi, Ziwei, and Western astrology in its annual reading. Its Western timing scope uses Mars and Jupiter-through-Pluto transit windows. This does not cover every annual astrology technique. The annual methodology and product pages own the detailed settings, delivery scope, and inspectable evidence.
- Do not assume this report provides solar returns, progressions, eclipses, lunations, or complete station and ingress event tables.
- An annual reading addresses longer context and differences between months. A separate monthly reading can focus more closely on a question within one month.
- Check current eligibility, pricing, and terms before starting. This guide does not set a fixed price or a fixed chapter count.
What would stronger evidence actually establish?
Published methods, complete examples, and traceable sources make the product easier to inspect. They do not establish predictive accuracy, superiority over another service, or willingness to pay. Automated checks can catch some faults without replacing expert review or reader assessment.
- Calculation reliability needs independent comparisons using matching inputs and settings, with differences and unresolved cases recorded.
- Reading quality needs complete-report blind review and real reader feedback. A showcase sample cannot represent every person, language, or generation.
- Predictive claims need conditions specified before events occur and follow-up of future outcomes. Selecting matching passages afterward cannot establish an accuracy rate; this guide presents no completed validation of that kind.

Annual reading
Separate the natal background, Da Yun context, annual themes and shorter windows. Li Chun, Lunar New Year and January 1 are different boundaries. The complete recorded example shows one historical question, not the success rate of all annual reports.
Check the date range, timezone and calendar boundary attached to each signal. A day, month or year theme is not an appointment for an event. Record what actually happens and keep conflicting or absent signals visible.
A traditional source explains where a rule comes from. A calculation check tests the stated case. A generated report shows the writing for its recorded input, language and date. None of these alone proves future outcomes, independent expert endorsement or reader satisfaction. Check the sample page for its origin, completeness and any unavailable parts.
