A relationship spread should examine perspectives, communication, needs, boundaries, and shared actions without claiming access to another person’s secrets or overriding consent. It can help a participant organize what is known, felt, requested, or negotiable while keeping another person’s unspoken mind outside the evidence.

Direct answer and scope
A responsible relationship spread examines communication, needs, boundaries, and choices that the querent can observe or discuss; it cannot expose a nonparticipant’s unvoiced intentions. Positions should separate stated perspectives from assumptions and conclude with a conversation that honors consent or a boundary the participant controls, rather than surveillance disguised as insight.
How to use or verify it
Use positions about the participating reader’s observations and choices; distinguish known behavior from symbolic prompts. Name who consented, avoid collecting unnecessary private details, separate “what I assume” from “what they stated,” and end with a conversation, boundary, or safety step the participant controls.
Hypothetical worked example
A five-card layout can ask: my perspective, their stated perspective, shared strength, unresolved issue, and a conversation step—using only information the people consented to discuss. If the issue concerns message frequency, the final step might be agreeing on expectations rather than inferring hidden affection from a Cups card.
Near miss and alternative explanation
A card in “their feelings” cannot prove love, infidelity, danger, or intent when the person has not communicated those facts. A spread should not be used to monitor an ex-partner, replace direct consent, excuse coercion, or delay appropriate help when abuse or immediate safety is involved.
Evidence, ethics, and stopping rule
Consent and assessment boundaries support observable communication and the participant’s choices, not claims that cards expose what somebody else has never expressed. Relationship reflection remains conditional, and urgent risk calls for direct support rather than interpretation of threatening or reassuring imagery.
