Sukuyo astrology: birth mansions, compatibility and calendars

What is Sukuyo astrology?

Sukuyo is a tradition of mansion-based astrology encountered today especially in Japanese birth-date and compatibility readings. A mansion, or shuku, is a named position in the system. A birth mansion provides a reference for a reading; two birth mansions provide references for a relationship comparison.

The historical Sukuyōkyō, catalogued as T1299, discusses mansions, calendars and day selection. That does not mean every modern calculator follows one unchanged ancient table. This guide identifies the method being used before interpreting its labels.

How do I find my birth mansion?

Start with the Sukuyo birth-mansion calculator linked below. Enter the requested birth date, then keep the converted lunar month, lunar day and returned mansion together. If you already know a lunar birthday, do not type it into a Gregorian-date field without checking the input instructions.

OpenFate uses an Asia/Tokyo calendar convention with a midnight day boundary and a supported date range of 1900–2099. This method does not use birth time. Those are product settings, not a claim that every school uses the same rules.

Why do some sources say 27 and others 28?

The OpenFate sequence contains 27 names, without 牛. The historical text also contains passages and tables that include 牛, so “Sukuyo” alone does not identify a single interchangeable calendar table. A Chinese 28-mansion calendar and this 27-mansion birth-date method must not be treated as the same lookup.

Names such as 昴 and 鬼 are identifiers here. A familiar translation or an alarming-looking character is not enough to infer someone’s character. Check the full name, the system and the source of the interpretation.

How does Sukuyo compatibility work?

Compatibility compares positions in the ordered mansion sequence. Modern labels include 命, 業胎, 栄親, 安壊, 危成 and 友衰. Direction matters: a label describing B from A’s position need not be the same label describing A from B’s position.

Read such labels as traditional ways of framing a relationship, not as a ranking of partners. For example, two people can use a reading to discuss different preferences for planning; whether they actually listen, keep agreements and respect boundaries must be judged from their behaviour.

Is a daily mansion the same as my birth mansion?

No. A birth mansion uses the birth date as its reference. A daily mansion uses the date being examined. A calendar for a proposed meeting therefore answers a different question from a birth-mansion comparison. Keep both dates visible when comparing results.

A Western Moon sign or a degree-based nakshatra calculation is a different calculation again. Sharing lunar vocabulary does not make the results interchangeable.

A useful order for learning

Begin with the calculation method, then learn the name of your mansion. For relationships, establish both birth mansions before considering directional labels. For a daily reading, record the target date separately. This order makes it easier to notice when two sources are answering different questions.

Traditional interpretations are not scientifically established personality measurements or predictions. Historical texts document a tradition; calculation rules explain how a label is produced. Neither can establish the future of a relationship.
