Overview
Qimen Dunjia is a family of traditional Chinese calendrical-divination methods that arranges time markers, stems, gates, stars, and deities in a nine-palace board. A useful beginner path starts with the board’s components and declared casting method before any symbolic reading. Study in this order: cast moment and offset; solar term, Yin or Yang Dun, Yuan and bureau; earth and heaven plates; Chief Star and Gate; then palace relations, conditions, and question-specific anchors. Each layer depends on the one before it.

How the rule is formed or checked
Study in this order: cast moment and offset; solar term, Yin or Yang Dun, Yuan and bureau; earth and heaven plates; Chief Star and Gate; then palace relations, conditions, and question-specific anchors. Each layer depends on the one before it.
Keep the cast moment, UTC offset, method version, palace, and interacting symbols visible before adopting an interpretation.
How to use this in a reading
Use the hub as a curriculum, not a shortcut to good-or-bad labels. When two charts differ, compare time handling, solar-term boundary, Yuan method, plate method, center rule, and day boundary before comparing meanings.
- Name the visible chart fact before assigning symbolic meaning.
- Compare the asker and matter anchors with every layer in their palaces.
- Record at least one supporting condition and one counter-signal.
- End with a reversible action and an observable review point.
Worked contrast
A beginner who recognizes an Open Gate but ignores the casting method has only a symbol label. A beginner who can reproduce the bureau, locate the gate, and state its palace relation has a checkable reading path even before interpretation.
Common mistake and limit
A reproducible traditional chart is not scientific validation of prediction. Keep calculation facts, historical claims, lineage choices, symbolic interpretations, and real-world evidence in separate columns.
