Liu Yao Foundations
Build Liu Yao foundations through terminology, history, evidence boundaries, safe practice, and a clear path from chart facts to interpretation.
Overview
Liu Yao foundations begin by separating five things: the received Yijing, later Jing Fang and Najia materials, a casting convention, deterministic chart construction, and conditional interpretation. Learning them in this order prevents historical labels, software output and real-world claims from being treated as the same kind of evidence.

Direct answer
Liu Yao foundations begin by separating five things: the received Yijing, later Jing Fang and Najia materials, a casting convention, deterministic chart construction, and conditional interpretation. Learning them in this order prevents historical labels, software output and real-world claims from being treated as the same kind of evidence.
Definitions and prerequisites
Before reading techniques, identify the names used in your source, its date and edition, the coin or line-value convention, and whether month, day and Shi–Ying settings are stated. A term such as Wen Wang Gua does not by itself disclose every rule.
Method or reference rule
Start with names and history, then learn the six line values and original/changed structure. Continue through Eight Palaces, Najia, Six Relatives, Shi–Ying and time pillars before moving to Yongshen selection and evidence synthesis.
Worked example
A beginner comparing two charts first checks whether both record lines bottom-up and use 6/9 as moving. Only after those inputs match should palace, Najia or interpretation differences be investigated.
Closest failure case
Memorizing auspicious and inauspicious keywords before learning chart construction reverses the evidence order. It encourages a reader to select whichever label fits the desired conclusion and makes disagreements impossible to diagnose.
Sources, interpretation and limits
Historical texts can document terms and practices, and code can document a current calculation. Neither alone proves predictive validity, universal school agreement or the truth of a personal outcome.
The scholarly Yijing overview, historical Jing text and OpenFate methodology support separate layers. They do not make every later Liu Yao rule ancient or empirically validated.
Verification checklist
Save the question, cast time, timezone, face convention, six line values, source edition and product version whenever they can change the result.
- Reproduce the six stored line values before interpretation.
- Name the method, edition and product settings used.
- Cite the decisive chart facts instead of one dramatic label.
- Use observable records and qualified advice for high-stakes decisions.
