Qimen Yong Shen: Day Stem, Hour Stem, and Topic Anchors
In OpenFate’s question-reading convention, the day stem anchors the asker and the hour stem anchors the immediate matter.
Overview
In OpenFate’s question-reading convention, the day stem anchors the asker and the hour stem anchors the immediate matter. Chief Star and Chief Gate supply universal context; topic anchors add a narrower object only when the question needs one. Resolve any Jia stem through its own Xun head before locating it. Store original pillar, resolved instrument, source layer, and palace separately; day Jia and hour Jia may resolve to different instruments.

How the rule is formed or checked
Resolve any Jia stem through its own Xun head before locating it. Store original pillar, resolved instrument, source layer, and palace separately; day Jia and hour Jia may resolve to different instruments.
Keep the cast moment, UTC offset, method version, palace, and interacting symbols visible before adopting an interpretation.
How to use this in a reading
Compare the two anchor palaces by five-element relation, vigor, conditions, and real-world agency. A topic symbol supplements the day-hour relationship; it does not erase the asker or matter.
- Name the visible chart fact before assigning symbolic meaning.
- Compare the asker and matter anchors with every layer in their palaces.
- Record at least one supporting condition and one counter-signal.
- End with a reversible action and an observable review point.
Worked contrast
If the matter palace generates the asker palace but is void, support may be intended yet unavailable now. Reading only the generating relation would overstate access; reading only void would erase the supportive direction.
Common mistake and limit
Yong Shen is an explicit modeling choice, not a hidden person detector. Name the convention, preserve alternatives when schools differ, and never use an anchor to claim another person’s consent or intent.
