What Is Earth on the Rooftop (屋上土) in BaZi?
Learn the 丙戌–丁亥 Rooftop Earth pair, its tile-and-timber source image, and why it cannot determine housing, security, property, or earth strength.

Earth on the Rooftop is the earth-class Nayin assigned to 丙戌 and 丁亥. San Ming Tong Hui describes fired roof tiles supported by timber and protected through balanced water and fire, then limits every correspondence by exact pillars; it is not a property or safety forecast.

Rooftop Earth belongs to 丙戌 and 丁亥
The standard Nayin table assigns Earth on the Rooftop only to the complete 丙戌 and 丁亥 pillars. A Bing or Ding stem, a Xu or Hai branch, or an actual home in the person’s life does not independently create this classification.
丙 and 丁 remain fire stems; 戌 remains an earth branch and 亥 a water branch, each with its normal hidden stems. The earth Nayin is a pair-level title layered over those facts, not a command to convert both pillars into ordinary earth.

Tile, timber, water, and fire have specific roles
San Ming Tong Hui identifies this earth with roof tiles that shelter against frost, snow, wind, and rain. Because tiles require a frame, the text treats wood as a foundation and ranks Plains Wood before Great Forest Wood, while warning that a completed structure should not be broken by clashes.
The same passage distinguishes individual fire, water, earth, and metal pairs rather than approving an entire phase. Its construction language is a historical interpretive system; it does not prescribe building materials, home orientation, or elemental remedies.

The roof label stays outside the main chart calculation
