What Is Lamp Fire (覆燈火) in BaZi?
Identify the 甲辰–乙巳 Lamp Fire pair, understand the classical wick-and-oil image, and separate Nayin symbolism from ordinary chart fire and real-world claims.
Overview
Lamp Fire is the fire-class Nayin assigned to 甲辰 and 乙巳. San Ming Tong Hui treats it as a human-made night light sustained by a wooden wick and oil, with detailed conditions for other pillars; the metaphor does not turn the whole chart into fire or prove intellect, visibility, or lifespan.

The 甲辰 and 乙巳 pair
Lamp Fire belongs to the complete Jiazi 甲辰 and 乙巳. A Jia or Yi stem, a Chen or Si branch, or an ordinary fire component elsewhere does not create this Nayin name unless one pillar matches the full pair.
Jia and Yi remain wood stems; Chen remains an earth branch and Si a fire branch, each with its own hidden stems. The Nayin fire classification adds a historical pair image without rewriting the chart’s ordinary elemental composition.
- Confirm the complete stem-branch pair.
- Do not add Nayin fire to the ordinary element count as a replacement value.
What the wick-and-oil metaphor actually says
San Ming Tong Hui calls this a human night light: wood serves as the wick and certain water images as oil. It distinguishes suitable supports from conditions associated with wind, flooding, or competing fire, and it evaluates exact additional pillars rather than every instance of wood or water alike.
The passage also uses historical yin–yang time ranges and named special formations. Those details are interpretive conventions, not physical lamp mechanics or universal formulas. A responsible reading identifies the rule version and every matched pillar.
- Use the metaphor only with the source’s exact support conditions.
- Label historical time and formation conventions instead of modernizing them silently.
Nayin fire and ordinary fire answer different questions
OpenFate’s deterministic Nayin table maps 甲辰 and 乙巳 to Lamp Fire. When used in compatibility analysis, the result is auxiliary and non-scoring; it cannot override direct pillar interactions, structure, or favorable-element analysis.
To judge actual fire strength or usefulness, inspect Month Command, roots, hidden stems, exposed fire, combinations, transformations, clashes, and timing. A Lamp Fire pillar can appear in a chart where ordinary fire is weak, strong, useful, or unfavorable.
- Keep Nayin classification and ordinary fire strength as separate fields.
- Resolve practical chart questions with the full elemental evidence.
A lamp does not measure intelligence or lifespan
Lamp Fire cannot prove insight, education, fame, spirituality, insomnia, eyesight conditions, nervous-system health, accident risk, or a short life. Historical language about a lamp going out must not be converted into a medical or mortality prediction.
Education, health, safety, career, and relationship decisions require direct evidence and qualified help. The Nayin image may support textual study, but it must never be used to frighten, diagnose, or rank a person.
- Do not translate brightness into intelligence, virtue, or fame.
- Keep medical and mortality claims outside Nayin interpretation.
