Overview

The Four Transformations (Sì Huà, 四化) are 化祿 Hua Lu, 化權 Hua Quan, 化科 Hua Ke, and 化忌 Hua Ji. A ten-stem table assigns each transformation to one star for a named source stem; the effect is then located where that star actually resides. Birth, decade, annual, smaller timing, and palace-stem layers must remain separate. Tables differ by school, especially some Hua Ke assignments.

A source–star–palace relation

A complete transformation record says which stem is acting, which of the four labels it produces, which star receives it, where that star resides, and which natal or timing layer supplied the stem.

The four traditional labels are not simple good/bad scores. They are relational emphases whose interpretation depends on the star, palace, other transformations, and the question being examined.

  • Require source stem, star, palace, and layer.
  • Do not reduce the four labels to luck points.

How to trace a transformation

Choose the layer and read its source stem. Look up that stem in the declared table, then find the actual resident palace for each target star and record the resulting four edges.

For palace-stem flying transformations, repeat this from each palace’s stem. A self-transformation lands in its source palace; an opposing transformation lands six indices away.

  • Never use borrowed stars as landing sites.
  • Keep inbound, outbound, and self edges distinct.

Worked example and near-miss

Under OpenFate’s configured table, a 壬 source maps Hua Lu to 天梁, Hua Quan to 紫微, Hua Ke to 天府, and Hua Ji to 武曲. The chart then locates those four resident stars to produce palace targets.

A near-miss is to use a common table where 壬 Hua Ke targets 左輔, then compare it with OpenFate without naming the table. Both the target star and the downstream palace edge may differ.

  • Publish the exact table row used.
  • A changed table can change the relation graph.

School and layer variants

OpenFate’s configured table maps 戊科 to 太陽, 庚科 and 壬科 to 天府, and does not assign Hua Ke to 輔弼. This is product behavior, not a verified lineage attribution; other published tables differ on these rows.

Birth-year transformations, decade and annual transformations, and palace-stem flying transformations answer different relational questions. Combining them into one unlabeled list destroys provenance.

  • Display the table identifier and source scope.
  • Display the timing layer beside every edge.

Hua Ji is not a disaster diagnosis

Hua Lu does not guarantee money, Hua Quan does not guarantee power, Hua Ke does not guarantee fame, and Hua Ji does not prove loss, illness, betrayal, or failure. The labels are technical traditional categories.

Translate them into conditional tensions, attention patterns, or questions and verify them against other chart evidence and real circumstances. Never use them alone for medical, financial, or relationship decisions.

  • Keep high-stakes decisions outside symbolic inference.
