Overview

Combining a Void refers to a valid Liuhe, Sanhe, Sanhui, or other declared branch relation that includes a branch from the reference xun’s void pair. The relation can connect or redirect that branch under a chosen method, but the combination must satisfy its own participants and formation conditions. Void does not make a missing participant appear, and combination does not universally cancel Void.

Name the exact combination being tested

Identify whether the contact is a two-branch Liuhe, a three-branch Sanhe, a seasonal Sanhui, or another sourced rule.

A label such as “combined” is insufficient unless all required branches, pillars, and time layers are recorded.

  • Use one explicit relation table.
  • Reject implied or missing participants.

The combination retains its own conditions

Season, central branch, transformation phase, exposure, strength, clashes, and competing combinations may affect whether a relation merely contacts or fully forms.

A void flag does not bypass those requirements, and a nominal combination does not necessarily transform.

  • Separate contact from transformation.
  • Check damage and competing paths.

Schools differ on how combination changes void

Some methods treat a strong combination as drawing the void branch into relation; others retain the void qualification or distinguish natal and timed cases.

State the convention and preserve the original xun data so readers can reproduce an alternative reading.

  • Keep raw inputs alongside conclusions.
  • Label school-specific effects.

Combination does not guarantee union or success

The rule cannot prove marriage, reconciliation, contract completion, pregnancy, profit, or the return of a missing person or object.

Use it as a technical relationship marker only and rely on current facts for consequential choices.

  • Do not equate combination with a good outcome.
  • Avoid relationship and financial promises.
