Twelve Life Stages across the Four Pillars

Read Twelve Life Stages by preserving the reference stem and year, month, day, or hour branch instead of merging four positions into one label.

Overview

Across the Four Pillars, a stage result always belongs to a particular reference stem and a particular pillar branch. A Day-Master-centered table may calculate the Day Stem against all four branches, while another classical method may use each pillar stem against its own branch. These are different matrices and must be labeled rather than blended.

Choose the calculation matrix first

A common Zi Ping display holds the Day Stem constant and looks up its stage at the year, month, day, and hour branches.

Some sources or tools also display each pillar’s own stem-to-branch stage. The two outputs answer different questions and should occupy separate columns.

  • Label Day-Master and self-pillar matrices.
  • Never compare unlabeled stage rows.

Pillar position remains part of the evidence

The same stage at the month branch and hour branch does not carry identical seasonal or positional context.

Month Command has direct seasonal importance, while other branches contribute roots, relations, and palace context; a stage label does not erase those distinctions.

  • Retain year, month, day, or hour position.
  • Do not let stage names replace palace evidence.

Compare without collapsing the four results

Repeated stages can be reported as repeated lookups, but repetition alone does not create a stronger universal meaning.

A synthesis should name the involved branches, roots, combinations, clashes, and the specific question before describing any pattern.

  • Show each calculation independently.
  • Explain the direct relation behind any synthesis.

Four stages do not write a life story

It is unsafe to turn year, month, day, and hour stage names into childhood, adulthood, marriage, and old-age predictions without a sourced method and broader evidence.

Even within a declared tradition, use conditional language and never derive health, death, pregnancy, or family facts from a label.

  • Avoid automatic age-period narratives.
  • Do not infer sensitive family outcomes.
