What Is Void in Bazi?

Learn how Void or Kong Wang identifies two branches absent from a ten-pair xun and why it means a relative absence, not literal nonexistence.

Overview

Void, called Kong Wang, is calculated from the six xun of the sixty-Jiazi cycle. Each xun combines ten Heavenly Stems with ten of the twelve Earthly Branches, leaving two branches unused; those two are the xun voids. A void label is relational to a specific Jiazi and rule table. It does not erase a branch, person, palace, or life matter.

Void comes from the ten-stem, twelve-branch count

A xun pairs all ten Heavenly Stems with ten consecutive Earthly Branches. After the ten stems are exhausted, two branches remain outside that xun.

The omitted pair of branches changes from one xun to the next, so Void cannot be assigned from a branch alone.

  • Identify the xun before its void pair.
  • Retain the reference Jiazi.

Every void statement needs a reference rule

Day-pillar xun void is common in modern Bazi displays, while some traditions also examine year-pillar or other reference points.

A page must state which pillar supplies the xun and which chart or timing branches are being tested against it.

  • Name the reference pillar.
  • Do not merge void sets from different anchors.

Void qualifies evidence rather than deleting it

Classical discussion itself warns that emptiness may contain substance and should not immediately be judged adverse.

A branch marked void still retains its phase, hidden stems, pillar position, and direct relations. The label may modify how a declared method discusses availability, expression, or timing.

  • Preserve the underlying branch data.
  • Check clashes, combinations, season, and roots separately.

Void is not nonexistence

Void does not prove that a parent, partner, child, career, asset, or opportunity is absent, fake, lost, or doomed.

It must not be used to diagnose mental or physical conditions, predict bereavement, deny relationships, or make legal and financial decisions.

  • Avoid literal disappearance claims.
  • Keep sensitive conclusions outside the label.
