What Is the Jian Lu Pattern (建祿格) in BaZi?
Learn how Jian Lu Pattern forms when the Day Master reaches its Lu position in the month branch, why strength is not enough, and how useful paths are selected.
Overview
The Jian Lu Pattern centers the Day Master reaching its Lu or Prospers stage in the month branch, commonly when the effective month qi is Peer and no clearer standard Ten-God pattern replaces it. Formation establishes strong footing, not a favorable result; the chart still needs a usable path through Output, Wealth, Officer or Seven Killings, Resource, climate, and actual placement. It does not guarantee wealth, rank, employment, inheritance, health, independence, marriage, or longevity.

Jian Lu is a month-command structure, not any Lu marker
Jian Lu means that the Day Master reaches its Lu or Prospers stage in the month branch. The ten-stem Lu table gives 甲–寅, 乙–卯, 丙 and 戊–巳, 丁 and 己–午, 庚–申, 辛–酉, 壬–亥, 癸–子. A Lu branch in the year, day, or hour may be a root or marker but does not by itself form 建祿格.
The formation review confirms the month branch, effective month qi, roots, exposure, and whether a clearer eligible month-command Ten God takes precedence. Jian Lu often appears when Peer owns the effective month command; it is a structural fallback only after that selection process is documented.

Strong footing creates a starting condition, not a finished judgment
A Day Master rooted at Lu is commonly strong, so the next question is how that force circulates. Output may release it, Wealth may receive Output, and Officer or Seven Killings may provide control. Resource can help in one chart but intensify excess in another; climate needs remain a separate layer.
Combinations, clashes, exposed stems, root damage, and the actual distance among signals determine whether a path works. The pattern name alone cannot choose a useful god or establish grade. Analysis should state the selected path and the evidence against its alternatives.

OpenFate uses Jian Lu only after month-command selection
OpenFate’s classical-pattern engine can return 建禄格 when the effective month-command relation is Peer and the regular candidate-selection rules do not establish a different exposed pattern. The output retains the effective month stem, candidate evidence, status, clarity, and blockers.
This behavior is intentionally different from the separate Lu Shen marker, which can be found in any pillar through the deterministic Lu table. A Wiki explanation must preserve that distinction and avoid claiming that every Lu hit changes the classical pattern result.

The pattern does not prove wealth, salary, official rank, entrepreneurship, independence, stubbornness, physical strength, inherited property, loss of family wealth, marriage quality, fertility, good health, or long life. “Establishing prosperity” is a technical stage name, not an outcome promise.
Career, finance, property, medical, and relationship decisions require verified circumstances, consent, and qualified advice. Do not use Jian Lu to predict income, assign personality, approve risk, or judge family support.
