What Is the Seven Killings or Warlord Pattern (七殺格) in BaZi?
Learn how Seven Killings Pattern forms from the month command, when Eating God controls it or Resource transforms it, and why presence alone is not danger.
Overview
The Seven Killings Pattern centers Seven Killings selected from the month command and requires a workable relation among its strength, the Day Master, and a control or transformation path. Eating God may control it and Resource may transform its qi; Wealth, mixed Resource and excessive control can change the result. The pattern does not prove violence, danger, military talent, leadership, trauma, illness, or death.

Seven Killings presence and Seven Killings Pattern are different claims
Seven Killings is the same-polarity element that controls the Day Master. To call the chart a Seven Killings Pattern, the analysis must show why that relation leads the month command or an eligible effective month qi, whether it is exposed or rooted, and how strongly it acts relative to the Day Master.
A Seven Killings stem elsewhere in the chart can be important without owning the primary pattern. Likewise, a month-command candidate may remain partial when the relevant qi is hidden, its path lacks support, or competing structures prevent a clear conclusion.

- Show the month-command foundation before naming the pattern.
Control and transformation require proportion and a complete path
San Ming Tong Hui distinguishes uncontrolled Seven Killings from a workable Indirect Officer path. Eating God may control it, while Resource may receive its qi and support the Day Master. The text also warns that control can be excessive or insufficient, so “more control is better” is not a valid rule.
Wealth can strengthen Seven Killings, which may help only when the Day Master and structure can carry that force. When Eating God and Resource both appear, Resource may obstruct the control route; some systems then examine whether Wealth removes that obstruction and preserves the Eating God path. Every claim needs visible placement and sequence evidence.

OpenFate reports a status, not a frightening label
OpenFate begins with the effective month command and records a Seven Killings candidate, its exposure, support, control or transformation path, blockers, clarity, and confidence. Results can be formed, partial, broken, or ordinary rather than forcing every appearance into a finished pattern.
The current implementation recognizes Eating God control and Killings–Resource flow, and it flags the mixed case in which both control and Resource appear without a completed rescue. These are explicit V1 rules and should remain distinguishable from other schools or future engine versions.

Seven Killings is not violence, danger, or a diagnosis
Seven Killings Pattern does not prove aggression, crime, abuse, military or police aptitude, courage, leadership, trauma, accident risk, weapons use, severe illness, poverty, imprisonment, or shortened life. Historical warfare and punishment language is not a modern risk assessment.
Safety, employment, legal, medical, and relationship decisions require observed behavior, records, consent, and qualified professionals. Never frighten a reader, deny an opportunity, or excuse harmful conduct because of a Seven Killings label.
