Overview

Ten-God combinations describe functional relations; a Bazi structure (格局) is a broader organization with its own Month-Command anchor, formation criteria, failure conditions, and rescue paths. A combination can support a structure without defining the entire chart, and the same symbols can operate differently under another structure. OpenFate therefore records relation evidence and structure classification separately before synthesizing them.

At a glance

Relation
A combination names an operating role path
Structure
A pattern organizes the wider chart
Anchor
Month Command often frames standard-structure testing
Tests
Formation, failure, rescue, and competition remain explicit
Coexistence
Several relations may serve one structure
Boundary
A pattern name does not guarantee rank or fortune

Separate relation evidence from structure classification

First record which Ten-God roles generate, control, support, or obstruct one another.

Only then test whether those facts satisfy a named structure under the adopted school.

  • Two distinct conclusions.
  • Name the school and rule set.

Run formation, failure, and rescue tests

Check Month Command, exposed stems, roots, purity, damage, competing relations, and available rescue.

A memorable combination cannot rescue a structure unless the required path is strong and reachable.

  • Publish pass and fail evidence.
  • Do not infer formation from title match.

Explain the role of the combination inside the structure

State whether it forms the backbone, provides rescue, creates contamination, or remains secondary.

If competing structures remain plausible, show the decision order and uncertainty.

  • Assign a specific function.
  • Preserve alternatives.

Do not convert structure names into status claims

Traditional pattern names do not certify intelligence, wealth, office, morality, or destiny.

Real-world claims require direct evidence and should never be guaranteed by a chart label.

  • No prestige guarantee.
  • No deterministic biography.
