How to Learn Vedic Astrology: A Practice Plan
Follow a practical learning routine: decode notation, reproduce coordinates, count houses, inspect one rule and keep a source-aware study log.

Learn Vedic astrology by completing small reproducible exercises before attempting a whole reading. Keep one source convention at a time, write down the inputs, and check whether you can explain an error. Memorizing a list of promised outcomes is not a reliable measure of progress.

Use a four-session starter routine
Session one: convert 125° into Leo5° and identify what the number describes. Session two: with Virgo rising, count Aquarius as house six. Session three: compare one position under two explicitly stated reference conventions. Session four: explain the differences to someone without using personality labels.
This is an original study routine, not a claim that four sessions confer competence. Slow down when you cannot reconstruct a step. Use the foundations hub as a reading map, while this page supplies the practice sequence.
Learn one convention before comparing variants
Choose a named passage and record its edition. If learning graha drishti, do not silently add rashi-drishti or Western orb rules to the same exercise. First reproduce one framework, then write down what changes in another.
Rao’s table of contents can organize terminology, but its interpretive claims are not scientific validation. A software manual can verify coordinate settings without authorizing the symbolic conclusions in a textbook.
Test understanding with a counterexample
Ask what happens if the reference changes from Virgo lagna to an Aquarius Moon: Aquarius becomes first from the Moon while remaining sixth from lagna. Explaining both labels is more informative than memorizing “sixth-house meaning.”
Keep mistakes and corrections in the study log. Do not use friends as involuntary test subjects or charge for confident advice while basic input checks remain uncertain. Learning a tradition and demonstrating predictive skill are separate accomplishments.
