Overview

Vargas are derived charts that reorganize natal zodiac positions under named division rules. Start with D1, then learn the calculation and traditional subject of one division at a time. A new chart is not a new observation of the sky or an independent proof about a person.

Which divisional chart should I learn first?

Read D1 before following a topic into a divisional chart. Rao’s Table 11 associates D2 with resources, D6 with health-related questions, D9 with dharma and relationships, D10 with public activity, and D24 with learning. These are attributed traditional domains, not validated measurements.

For a practical learning path, understand D1 sign and house first, practise D9’s 3°20′ segments, then compare D10’s different starting rule. The numbered pages explain calculation; the “read with D1” guide explains how to keep the layers separate.

One longitude, different derived signs

Take an invented sidereal longitude of Taurus 5°. It remains Taurus in D1, maps to Aquarius in D9, and to Aquarius in D10 under the rules taught here. The matching D9 and D10 signs come from different segment widths and starting points.

Write the source longitude beside each result instead of counting the agreement as two independent confirmations. Both results reuse the same input. If that longitude changes across a segment boundary, recompute every affected division before interpreting it.

What should I check before reading a varga?

Keep the zodiac, ayanamsa, division algorithm and birth-time uncertainty with the chart. A precise-looking divisional ascendant does not make an uncertain birth time precise. Do not supply an invented time simply to fill all twelve houses.

Higher division numbers are not a ranking of accuracy or spiritual authority. Choose a chart because its stated method addresses the question, and use external evidence for actual health, relationships, education and resources. More charts cannot guarantee a better prediction.
