What Is Nayin?
Learn how Nayin assigns each pair of the sixty Jiazi to one of thirty named phase images, and why it remains separate from ordinary Five-Phase analysis.
Overview
Nayin is a fixed classification attached to a complete stem-branch pair. The sixty Jiazi are grouped into thirty adjacent pairs, and each pair receives a named Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water image. It is a historical lookup system, not the direct phase of either character and not a substitute for chart structure.

Nayin classifies a stem-branch pair
A Nayin entry belongs to the exact combination of one Heavenly Stem and one Earthly Branch, such as Jia-Zi, rather than to either symbol in isolation.
Two consecutive Jiazi normally share one named image, so sixty cycle entries resolve to thirty names.
- Identify the full Jiazi before looking up Nayin.
- Keep the pair, image name, and assigned phase as separate fields.
The result comes from a canonical table
For practical calculation, Nayin is obtained by matching the exact Jiazi to the received sixty-entry correspondence table.
Historical works offer more than one cosmological explanation for the table, so a lookup result should not be presented as proof that one later derivation is uniquely correct.

It is an auxiliary classification
Nayin can support a declared Nayin or classical Luming method by adding a paired image and phase relationship to the reading.
In a standard Zi Ping reading, month command, Day-Master strength, Ten Gods, structure, and direct stem-branch relations provide the primary evidence.
- Declare the interpretive school before using it.
- Do not add Nayin to ordinary phase-strength counts.
An image is not a literal fate label
Names such as Sea Gold or Furnace Fire are technical images within a historical taxonomy, not descriptions of a person, ancestry, health, or guaranteed event.
Any modern explanation should preserve the classical term while marking interpretation as cultural and conditional.
- Avoid personality claims from one Nayin name.
- Do not use Nayin as medical, legal, or financial evidence.
