Overview

The twelve zodiac animals are mnemonic labels associated with the twelve Earthly Branches. Popular zodiac discussion usually refers only to the year branch, while a Bazi chart contains year, month, day, and hour branches plus hidden stems and relations. The animal does not replace the branch data, and neither system can establish personality, compatibility, health, wealth, or fate from one label.

Animal labels cannot determine identity or compatibility

Keep animal label and branch symbol as separate fields

Rat corresponds to Zi, Ox to Chou, and the sequence continues through Pig and Hai, but the branch remains the computational symbol.

Separating fields prevents a translated animal name from replacing polarity, phase, month, hour, hidden stems, and relation data.

  • Store branch key independently.
  • Treat the animal as a localized display label.

A Four-Pillars chart is wider than the year animal

Bazi includes four branch positions and their interactions, so two people with the same year animal can have very different charts.

Even the full branch network remains an interpretive model and should not be reduced to a compatibility score.

  • Show all four branch positions.
  • Do not use year-animal matching as chart analysis.

Disclose how the zodiac year boundary is resolved

Popular lunar-year labels and Bazi methods using Start of Spring can disagree for dates near the beginning of a civil year.

The page or tool must name its convention, keep the birth timestamp and location, and avoid silently switching boundaries between views.

  • State lunar-year or solar-term convention.
  • Keep results consistent across the product.

Animals do not define people or relationships

A zodiac animal cannot reveal personality, ethnicity, gender, morality, health, intelligence, employment, or relationship safety.

Do not make hiring, dating, medical, financial, or legal decisions from animal labels or branch compatibility alone.

  • Reject animal-based stereotyping.
  • No high-stakes compatibility decision.
