Why Vedic Chart Calculators Give Different Results

Diagnose conflicting Vedic charts by comparing timestamps, longitudes, ayanamsa, nodes, houses and chart layers before changing the birth data.

Overview

Two Vedic calculators can disagree because they normalized the birth inputs differently, use different calculation settings, or display different chart layers. Isolate the first numeric disagreement before comparing the readings. Similar prose is not a calculation test.

Use the pattern of disagreement

If many longitudes differ by a similar angular offset, compare zodiac and ayanamsa. If physical bodies agree but Rahu and Ketu differ, inspect the node convention. These are diagnostic leads, not conclusive proofs of the cause.

If sign positions agree but house numbers differ, inspect the ascendant reference and house method. If only the drawing looks different, check North versus South Indian layout. If D9 differs while D1 agrees, compare divisional rules and retained precision.

Change one setting at a time

Create a comparison sheet containing both normalized timestamps, one Sun longitude, one Moon longitude, the ascendant, node setting and chart label. In a synthetic test, identical planet positions with a one-hour timestamp discrepancy should prompt a closer look at whether a display is stale or rounded; do not declare the systems matched.

Correct an input only when the record supports the correction. Then rerun both sides and note exactly which fields changed. Simultaneously altering time, ayanamsa and house system makes it impossible to attribute the improvement.

What makes a useful mismatch report?

Include the smallest necessary input set, software version if available, relevant settings, exact output fields and expected convention. Redact personal identifiers that are not needed. A statement such as “Moon is 40°00′ here and 39°59′ there” is more actionable than “my star is wrong.”

Even when both calculations align, interpretive prose can differ by school or editorial choices. That is a separate comparison. Neither agreement between apps nor a compelling personal anecdote validates predictions.
