Death (死) in the Twelve Life Stages
Understand the ten Death-stage positions and the strict safety rule: 死 is a symbolic qi phase, not evidence of death, danger or lifespan.
Overview
Death (死) is stage eight of the Twelve Life Stages, following Illness and preceding Tomb. OpenFate returns it for 甲午、乙亥、丙酉、丁寅、戊酉、己寅、庚子、辛巳、壬卯、癸申 and assigns a weak secondary tag. In this system 死 is a name for a position in a repeating qi sequence. It must never be read as a prediction of death, shortened life, fatal illness, accident, violence, bereavement or the end of a relationship or career.

Death is one reusable label in a cycle that continues
The sequence proceeds from 死 to 墓, 絕, 胎, 養 and back to 長生. Its continuation makes clear that 死 is a symbolic phase of qi rather than a terminal event for a human life.
Every chart contains many stage results across Star Fortune and Sitting Stage. A single frightening character must not be isolated from that calculation context.

Death is calculated from the exact reference stem
OpenFate maps 死 to 甲午、乙亥、丙酉、丁寅、戊酉、己寅、庚子、辛巳、壬卯 and 癸申. The same branch can hold a different stage under another stem.
The branch remains fully present with its hidden stems and relationships. The lookup does not delete a pillar or nullify its Ten Gods.
- Confirm the complete pair.
- Never equate 死 with a missing or cancelled pillar.
The product records a weak stage without mortality logic
The current engine attaches the weak stage category for presentation and calculates Star Fortune and Sitting Stage deterministically. There is no death-event or lifespan calculation in this rule.
Publishing the definition does not alter reports, add risk alerts or let the label override strength, season, roots or interactions.
- Keep the output descriptive and auditable.
- Do not add mortality scoring.
Death must never become a mortality or danger claim
死 cannot predict a death date, life expectancy, suicide, homicide, fatal accident, cancer, bereavement, miscarriage, divorce, dismissal or business closure. Such claims are unsupported and harmful.
Urgent medical or safety concerns require emergency services or qualified professionals. Never delay action or frighten a user because this stage appears.
