Official (臨官) in the Twelve Life Stages
Learn the ten Official-stage positions, its link to Lu locations, and why 臨官 is not proof of employment, authority, promotion or public office.
Overview
Official is the workbook name for 臨官, stage four of the Twelve Life Stages. OpenFate maps it to 甲寅、乙卯、丙巳、丁午、戊巳、己午、庚申、辛酉、壬亥、癸子. These are also the standard Lu positions used by the product’s Lu Star lookup, but a Life Stage and a Fate Star remain separate outputs. 臨官 follows Crowning and precedes Emperor; its strong secondary tag does not prove a job, title, promotion, leadership ability, salary or government career.

Official and Lu share positions but answer different questions
臨官 is the fourth stage in the continuous qi sequence. Lu Star reuses the branch at which a Day Stem reaches 臨官 as a separate lookup marker.
Shared arithmetic does not make the two names interchangeable. A stage record identifies a stem–branch condition; a Lu record identifies a specific Fate Star rule and matched pillar.
- Show the shared position without merging outputs.
- Keep Life Stage and Fate Star semantics separate.
The ten Official positions are fixed by reference stem
The implemented list is 甲寅、乙卯、丙巳、丁午、戊巳、己午、庚申、辛酉、壬亥 and 癸子. It is derived one step before 帝旺 in each stem’s direction.
A chart can therefore have one pillar’s stem sitting at 臨官 while the Day Stem receives a different Star Fortune stage at the same branch.
- Name the reference stem for every 臨官 result.
- Do not assume Star Fortune equals Sitting Stage.
Strong does not override pattern or month command
OpenFate classifies 臨官 as strong within the secondary stage display. It remains independent from Day-Master strength, effective roots, Authority Ten Gods and pattern selection.
The Wiki documents the current convention and Lu linkage without changing the engine, duplicating scores or rewriting stored reports.
- Do not add the stage twice through Lu.
- Preserve existing strength and pattern evidence.
Official is not an employment or authority prediction
臨官 does not prove civil service, management, promotion, professional license, wealth, ambition, obedience or social status. It also does not identify a person’s employer or future title.
Career and hiring decisions require present qualifications, opportunity and lawful evaluation. Historical office imagery is not modern employment evidence.
- No promotion, rank or salary promise.
- No hiring decision from the stage.
