Structure from Primary Month-Branch Qi (本氣取格)

Understand primary-qi structure selection, the evidence that makes the month branch’s main hidden stem operative, and the limits of using it mechanically.

Overview

Primary-qi selection takes the principal hidden stem of the month branch as the first structure candidate. The method is stable only when the hidden-stem table and school are explicit, and the candidate still must be tested for seasonal authority, exposure, roots, support, control, obstruction, and stronger competing evidence.

Define primary qi before selecting it

Identify the month branch and its principal hidden stem using one documented table.

Convert that stem into its exact Ten-God relation to the Day Master before naming a structure.

  • Keep the source table versioned.
  • Do not infer the role from the branch animal.

Primary qi supplies priority, not completion

Its month position gives seasonal relevance, but visibility, rooting, and access determine how clearly it can organize the chart.

A principal stem that is obstructed or unsupported may yield a weak candidate rather than a formed structure.

  • Separate priority from capacity.
  • Check the entire functional chain.

Compare exposed and mixed-qi alternatives

A revealed middle or residual stem may become more operational under a school that prioritizes month-command exposure.

Show why primary qi remains preferred or report a mixed structure when the evidence cannot be reduced honestly.

  • Preserve competing candidates.
  • State why one method prevails.

Do not turn the main qi into a destiny rank

Primary qi does not make a pattern pure, high-grade, favorable, or socially prestigious by itself.

Quality and life application require separate chart evidence and cannot guarantee real-world results.

  • No rank from one hidden stem.
  • No deterministic outcome claims.
