Structure from the Month Command (月令取格)

Overview
Month-Command structure methods use the month branch as the seasonal center of the natal chart. A defensible reading verifies the solar-term month, opens the branch into hidden stems, distinguishes command from mere presence, and then checks exposure, roots, supporting relations, damage, and rescue across the whole chart.

Verify the month before using its command
The month pillar changes at the relevant solar term, not at a lunar-month label or civil calendar shortcut.
A boundary error can replace the month branch and therefore change every downstream structure candidate.
- Retain the exact transition time.
- State the time-zone and calculation convention.
Open the branch into its actual qi layers
The month branch can contain more than one hidden stem, with different roles in different structure traditions.
Record which qi is in command, which is exposed, and which remains secondary rather than assigning one undifferentiated label.
- Name the hidden stems.
- Do not equate storage with full operational strength.
Follow the command into the whole chart
A candidate must connect to roots, exposed stems, supportive generation, control, and the chart’s competing relations.
Formation can be damaged or rescued, so the seasonal anchor is evidence rather than an automatic quality rating.
- Trace a complete functional path.
- Record both formation and failure conditions.
Season is not biography
The Month Command cannot by itself prove vocation, class, family circumstances, wealth, health, or a future event.
Use it to weight chart functions and disclose uncertainty when the branch contains mixed or contested qi.
