Ruchaka Yoga: Mars, Signs and Lagna Conditions
Check Ruchaka yoga with Mars in Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn and a lagna quadrant. See why exaltation alone is insufficient.
Overview
Ruchaka is the Mars member of the Pancha Mahapurusha family. Rao’s basic rule combines Mars in Aries, Scorpio or Capricorn with a quadrant from lagna.

Two requirements, not a Mars personality label
First confirm that the chart actually contains Mars in one of the three specified signs. Then count its house from lagna, including the lagna sign as one. A strong-looking Mars outside the required houses does not pass this definition.
The source’s traditional martial language explains the historical symbolism but does not establish aggression, physical ability or a military career. The technical question here is narrower: which documented placement condition is present?
Capricorn Mars changes its house when lagna changes
With Cancer lagna and Mars at 12° Capricorn, Capricorn is the seventh sign from Cancer. The allowed-sign and quadrant conditions both pass. The example uses synthetic coordinates, not a verified birth chart.
With Leo lagna and the same Mars, Capricorn is sixth. Exaltation-sign status remains, but the Ruchaka house condition fails. Mars need not stand at the deepest-exaltation degree to satisfy the base sign test.
Keep additional Mars conditions separate
A report may also discuss combustion, retrograde motion, aspects or a divisional placement. Ask which source makes each factor relevant and whether it changes identification or only interpretation. Do not import a blanket cancellation rule that the cited definition does not provide.
Rao §11.4.1 uses lagna, not the Moon, chiefly in D1. Confirming that rule cannot prove courage or violence in an individual; actual conduct and circumstances remain independent evidence.
