Why Bazi Calculators Produce Different Charts
Find why two Bazi calculators disagree by comparing calendar, time-zone, solar-time, day-boundary and solar-term policies in order.
Overview
Two Bazi calculators can receive apparently identical details and still produce different charts because the displayed form hides a calculation policy. Common causes include Gregorian versus lunar input, a missing leap-month flag, the wrong historical time zone, daylight-saving treatment, longitude and true solar time, Li Chun versus Lunar New Year, Jie boundaries versus calendar months, and a 23:00 versus midnight day change. Precision, equality rules and calendar data versions matter near boundaries. Some products also differ only in hidden-stem weights or interpretive labels while the Four Pillars are identical. The correct audit is to normalize all settings and compare the first intermediate value that diverges—not to select the chart whose reading feels preferable.

Start with the original record, not the displayed eight characters
Confirm whether each service interpreted the date as Gregorian or Chinese lunisolar, whether a leap month was selected, and whether a missing time was rounded or filled. Compare the exact birthplace rather than only the country.
A one-field mismatch can propagate through several pillars. Copying the final chart into another tool cannot test the source calculation.

Normalize time-zone, solar-time and day-boundary policies
Check the IANA zone, historical UTC offset, daylight-saving choice, longitude and whether true solar time is enabled. Then compare the effective date and time produced by each system.
A 23:00 Zi-hour day change can alter the Day Pillar before midnight, while a midnight policy does not. A solar correction can move a record across an hour, day or Jie boundary; it should not be applied as an unexplained universal adjustment.

Inspect exact year and month boundaries
One calculator may change the year at January 1, Lunar New Year or a fixed February date, while a Bazi implementation uses exact Li Chun. Month calculations can likewise confuse lunar month starts, principal terms and the twelve Jie boundaries.
Near a crossing, minute precision and the equality rule matter. Away from boundaries, a different pillar usually points to an input, epoch or implementation defect rather than an interpretive school.

- Test one moment on each side under the same zone.
Separate pillar disagreement from interpretation disagreement
If all four pillars match, differences in hidden-stem percentages, Ten God labels, strength scores, useful gods or narrative are downstream policy choices. They should not be described as a different birth chart.
If a pillar differs, compare calendar conversion, resolved instant, effective date, solar-term state and cycle index in order. Keep the evidence and software version; do not decide correctness from biographical confirmation alone.
