Fate Stars across the Four Pillars (神煞柱位)
Read a Shen Sha match in its actual Year, Month, Day, or Hour position without turning traditional pillar domains into literal biography.
Overview
A Fate Star’s target pillar is part of the calculation record and can guide which chart relationships deserve review. Year, Month, Day, and Hour positions have conventional domains, but placement only frames context. It does not establish a person, age period, relationship, or event without support from the pillar’s actual Ten Gods, roots, interactions, timing, and lived facts.

Store position with the marker
A match in the Month Branch is not interchangeable with the same match in the Hour Branch.
Keep the target pillar, target symbol, reference anchor, and rule source together as one evidence record.
- Never drop pillar provenance.
- Allow one marker to have several placements.
Use pillar domains as hypotheses
Traditional readings may associate pillars with broad family, social, self, partner, child, or later-life contexts.
These associations vary by school and cannot identify a specific person or event without direct chart and real-world evidence.
- Label the adopted palace convention.
- Do not identify third parties from position alone.
Cross-read the pillar’s actual functions
Inspect the pillar stem, branch, hidden stems, Ten Gods, roots, combinations, clashes, and seasonal role.
A marker has little interpretive force when the surrounding structure does not connect it to the question.
- Prioritize direct pillar facts.
- Report contradictory evidence.
Avoid age and event certainty
Four-pillar age bands are approximate school models and should not be used as deterministic calendars.
A marker in one pillar does not prove that its name will manifest during the associated life period.
- Keep age conventions attributed.
- Use timing layers for dated claims.
