Conjunctions and Associations in Vedic Astrology
Separate same-sign co-presence from close-degree conjunctions. Two examples show why sign boundaries, angular distance and combustion need distinct rules.

Conjunction can mean same-sign co-presence in a particular Vedic rule or a close angular relationship in another method. State the definition before assigning the label. Association is broader: the cited source also uses mutual graha aspect and sign exchange, which are not conjunctions.

Specify what conjunction means in this rule
A sign-based yoga definition may require two planets together in one sign, while a degree-based reading asks how close they are. The cited Sun–Mercury definition uses same-sign presence, and the association discussion separately distinguishes proximity. Do not hide these different tests behind one unlabeled icon.
Keep the same chart layer and timestamp for both positions. Two planets in different divisional charts are not a conjunction merely because the same sign name appears in each. Mutual aspect and exchange are other relationships with their own conditions.
Same sign can be wide; adjacent signs can be close
Synthetic Sun at Leo 2° and Mercury at Leo 25° are in one sign but 23° apart. They satisfy the simple same-sign test, not an exact conjunction. A tighter claim needs a named distance rule rather than an invented universal orb.
Conversely, Mars at Aries 29°50′ and Venus at Taurus 0°10′ are only 20′ apart across a boundary, but do not share a sign. This pair also cannot be a solar-combustion example because it does not contain the Sun. Angular closeness, sign co-presence and combustion are different questions.
Does being together guarantee a yoga result?
Verify the complete named yoga definition, the planets’ house roles and any modifying conditions before discussing an interpretation. A pair can meet an association test without establishing every requirement of a favorable named yoga.
Do not infer intelligence, affection or danger solely from co-presence. For a report discrepancy, compare chart layer, signs, unrounded degrees and the stated tolerance. The calculation can establish a relationship; it cannot establish the truth of a life-outcome claim.
