Parivartana: Planetary Sign Exchange
Check parivartana using two reciprocal sign-owner relationships. A Mars–Venus example and a failed near case distinguish exchange from a one-way connection.
Overview
Parivartana is a sign exchange: planet A occupies a sign ruled by planet B, and planet B occupies a sign ruled by planet A. Both directions must be verified. This structural relationship does not by itself establish a particular yoga category or guarantee its traditional outcome.

Verify two ownership edges
Read both planets’ occupied signs and the rulers of those signs. Write the two checks explicitly before naming an exchange. The same-sign and aspect tests are not substitutes; the planets can exchange signs without being conjoined.
House numbers depend on lagna, while the reciprocal sign-owner relationship can be checked from the sign positions. A named yoga based on exchanged house lords then needs those house roles and any additional conditions. Keep structural detection separate from classification of the result.
Mars in Taurus and Venus in Aries
Take synthetic Mars at Taurus 12° and Venus at Aries 18°. Taurus belongs to Venus and Aries to Mars in the seven-planet scheme. Both reciprocal conditions are met, so the pair has a sign exchange. With Cancer lagna and whole-sign houses, the occupied signs are the eleventh and tenth houses.
Now change only Venus to Gemini 18°. Mars is still in a Venus-owned sign, but Venus occupies a Mercury-owned sign, not a Mars-owned one. The second condition fails; the pair no longer forms this exchange. A one-way chain cannot be relabeled parivartana.
Why exchange is not automatically a success promise
The planets may own more than one sign, and their house roles depend on the chart reference. Do not skip those responsibilities or claim that every exchange is the same raja yoga. Co-presence in a divisional chart also cannot be substituted for an exchange in the D1 chart.
The cited association passage establishes a traditional rule, not empirical proof of prosperity or status. For an actual reading, retain the full positions and method; for life decisions, use independent practical evidence. This is a verification guide, not a prediction of a yoga’s promised result.
