Overview

Planetary dignity classifies a named planet’s relationship to its occupied zodiac sign, sometimes with a finer degree rule. Own sign, exaltation, debilitation and moolatrikona are related terms, not interchangeable measures of a person’s ability or fortune.

What information does a dignity label contain?

A useful dignity record identifies the planet, its longitude, the sign ruler, the relevant dignity table and the level of detail used. “Pisces is exalted” is incomplete: it omits the planet. A sign can be favorable by one planet’s dignity rule and carry another classification for a different planet.

Dignity is one input to a traditional reading. It does not itself include house ownership, aspects, speed or a complete strength calculation such as a separately specified shadbala procedure. Avoid treating a software badge as if all those checks had already been performed.

The same coordinate does not give every planet the same dignity

Compare two independent synthetic placements: Venus at Pisces 27° and the Moon at Pisces 27°. Both have total longitude 357°. The cited table assigns the exact Pisces 27° exaltation point to Venus, not the Moon. The Moon does not inherit Venus’s dignity by sharing the coordinate.

This is a comparison of rules, not a claim that both bodies occurred together in a real chart. If the actual body is unknown, stop before assigning dignity. If only a rounded sign is known, do not claim an exact peak degree.

What dignity cannot decide on its own

An own-sign or exaltation label does not establish wealth, intelligence or an easy life. A debilitation label does not establish disability or failure. Those words document how a tradition organizes interpretation, not empirical assessments of the native.

For a definition, use the relevant dignity term; for a report with several conflicting badges, use the conditions workflow. Record the chosen convention when comparing programs, especially where degree sublabels overlap broad sign ownership.
