Overview

Karkata, also written Karka, is Cancer: 90°–120° in the declared sidereal zodiac. It is a movable water sign ruled by the Moon. “The Moon rules Cancer” applies to the sign system; “my Moon is in Cancer” is a separate claim that must be checked in a particular chart.

Karka and Karkata name the same sign here

These spelling variants do not create different zodiac sectors. Confirm Cancer in the chart’s position table, then identify whether the entry is the Sun, Moon, lagna or another planet. A Cancer ascendant does not require a Cancer Moon.

Water and movable are traditional categories, not evidence that someone is emotional or always caring. A reflective discussion can ask how support is initiated and adjusted. It should not assign family roles, parenthood or mental health from a sign.

Own sign is different from exaltation

Cancer is the Moon’s own sign in the cited scheme; the Moon’s exaltation point is in Taurus. Jupiter’s exaltation point at 5° Cancer belongs to Jupiter, not to every occupant of Cancer. Mars has its debilitation point at 28° Cancer in that same table.

These dignity labels concern particular planets. Neither an empty Cancer sign nor the words “Cancer lagna” tell you that an exalted Jupiter is present. Read the planetary rows before discussing dignity, and do not convert dignity into a health or happiness score.

A Cancer Moon can occupy the tenth house

Take a synthetic lagna at 185° and Moon at 102° sidereal longitude. They are Libra 5° and Cancer 12°. Cancer is the tenth whole-sign house from Libra. The Moon is in its own sign, but this is a Libra-lagna chart—not Cancer rising.

Choose the Moon as the reference and Cancer becomes the first house of that view; Libra becomes the fourth. The Moon is still at Cancer 12°. A Moon chart can start in any Moon sign, so it is not automatically another name for a Cancer chart.

What else is needed for a Cancer Moon reading?

Check the Moon’s precise degree, nakshatra, phase and chart relationships for the question at hand. A sign alone does not provide those values. When a Moon lies near 90° or 120°, compare unrounded positions and the named ayanamsa before choosing a label.

A general Karka horoscope is not a personal timing analysis. Use the Moon and birth-input guides to resolve calculation questions. Keep claims about home, caregiving and emotional wellbeing grounded in lived circumstances rather than treating a traditional water-sign label as a diagnosis.
