Overview

Kanya is Virgo, 150°–180° in the sidereal convention used here. Mercury rules this dual earth sign and has its exaltation point at 15° Virgo. Rulership and degree-dependent dignity answer different questions; they do not turn every Virgo placement into an exalted Mercury.

What does Kanya identify?

Kanya identifies a sign, not a diagnosis of perfectionism or a promise of analytical skill. In a Moon-based label it means a Virgo Moon; in the ascendant row it means Virgo lagna. A Virgo Sun is a third possibility, so keep the chart field attached to the name.

Earth and dual are traditional organizing categories. They can frame a practical question about refining a method while keeping it usable. They do not establish a person’s occupation, cleanliness, disability or worth.

Why does Mercury have overlapping labels in Virgo?

The source’s table names Virgo as Mercury’s own sign and places its deep exaltation at 15° Virgo. Its following degree convention distinguishes the first 15°, the next 5° and the final 10° for exaltation, moolatrikona and own-sign readings. These are levels of classification, not three different physical locations for the same degree.

Do not silently combine scoring conventions from different software. Record whether a report gives a sign-level label, the exact exaltation point or a degree-segment rule. For a point exactly on a segment boundary, verify the implementation’s interval convention before claiming agreement.

Mercury at 17° and 22° Virgo

Compare two invented Mercury longitudes: 167° and 172°. Subtract Virgo’s 150° starting point to obtain 17° and 22° Virgo. Both are in Mercury’s own sign at the sign-ownership level. Under the quoted degree subdivision, 17° is in the middle 5° moolatrikona segment; 22° is in the final 10° own-sign segment.

Neither is the exact 15° exaltation point. If the chart has Gemini lagna and whole-sign houses, both positions remain in the fourth house. Changing a dignity sublabel therefore need not change the sign or house, and cannot by itself demonstrate a change in real-world ability.

Does a Virgo placement guarantee a strong Mercury?

No: first establish that Mercury is the planet being described. Then inspect the relevant degree rule, house role and other conditions under one declared method. A Moon at Virgo 15° is not Mercury at its exaltation point. Venus’s separate dignity in Virgo must not be assigned to Mercury either.

Use the Mercury and calculation pages when reconciling reports. A Kanya horoscope cannot supply missing birth data or justify medical, career or relationship decisions. The dignity vocabulary documents a tradition; it is not an objective test of intelligence or life prospects.
