The Ten Gods in Bazi (十神)

Overview

The Ten Gods classify every other stem or hidden stem by its Five-Phase and polarity relationship to the Day Master. The ten roles form five paired families: Companions, Output, Wealth, Authority, and Resource. They describe chart functions. Their strength, position, combination, structure, and timing must be evaluated before any life-domain interpretation.

Derive every role from the Day Master

First determine whether another phase is the same as, produced by, controlled by, controlling, or producing the Day Master.

Then compare polarity to choose the paired name. The role must be recalculated when the Day Master changes.

  • Use phase direction before polarity.
  • Include visible and hidden stems with their source labels.

Read five functional families before ten stories

Companion, Output, Wealth, Authority, and Resource describe broad structural functions and generation-control paths.

The paired names refine polarity. They do not give each symbol a fixed occupation, relative, virtue, or personality.

  • Start with the functional path.
  • Treat family analogies as bounded conventions.

Presence, strength, usefulness, and activation differ

A hidden, rootless, or seasonally weak Ten God is not equivalent to a visible, rooted, supported one. Interactions may bind, control, or redirect it.

Patterns and timing show how roles operate together. A count of labels cannot replace the whole-chart evidence.

  • Report visibility and roots.
  • Separate natal presence from timed activation.

Names are not biographical facts

Wealth does not prove money, Officer does not prove a job title, Resource does not prove education, and spouse or parent analogies do not identify real people.

Do not use Ten Gods for financial guarantees, employment screening, relationship accusation, diagnosis, or moral judgment.

  • Translate roles conditionally.
  • Use direct evidence for high-stakes claims.
