Overview

Mars mahadasha lasts seven model years in Vimshottari, between Moon and Rahu. Although Ketu has the same full duration, the two main periods start at different positions in the ruler cycle and contain differently ordered subperiods.

Why are Mars and Ketu not interchangeable?

Both rulers receive seven of the cycle’s 120 model years. Mars antardashas begin Mars, Rahu, Jupiter; Ketu antardashas begin Ketu, Venus, Sun. Equal parent lengths do not produce the same labels at the same elapsed offset.

Mars symbolism is often expressed through action or assertion, but it cannot establish aggression, an accident or bodily harm. A calculated main period is not evidence that a person is dangerous or that an ordinary disagreement will escalate.

Check the second Mars subperiod

Mars/Mars first lasts 7 × 7 / 120 = 49/120 model years. Mars/Rahu then lasts 7 × 18 / 120 = 21/20 years. Its end is 49/120 + 126/120 = 175/120, or 35/24 model years after the full parent start.

A target at elapsed 1 model year lies inside Mars/Rahu. The same offset in Ketu mahadasha belongs to a different subperiod because Venus, not Rahu, follows the initial self-period. Preserve the cycle order rather than copying a table solely because both parents last seven years.

What belongs in a responsible period reading?

State the full interval, remaining balance if relevant, and actual chart context before interpreting a theme. A person’s projects and conflicts need direct evidence; do not offer a favorable or dangerous verdict from Mars alone. Avoid remedial promises based on fear.

An uncertain birth time can shift the calculated start and target subperiod. Check the input interval and year definition with the timing-calculation guide. At an unresolved boundary, retain the alternatives rather than selecting the interpretation with the strongest language.
