Fu Yin (伏吟): Repeated Pillars in Bazi
Learn how Fu Yin identifies repeated stems, branches or pillars across natal and timing layers, and why repetition does not guarantee a repeated event.
Overview
Fu Yin (伏吟) is a traditional technical label for repetition: a stem, branch or complete pillar appears again in a stated comparison layer. The reader must identify what repeats, where it repeats and whether the match is partial or exact. A natal repetition differs from a luck pillar or annual pillar repeating a natal pillar. Repetition can increase the relevance of the repeated relation, but it does not by itself mean grief, illness, delay or a literal recurrence of an earlier event.

Fu Yin begins with an auditable repetition
A responsible reading names the two compared symbols: for example, an annual pillar exactly matching a natal pillar. Saying only “you have Fu Yin” leaves the evidence unverifiable.
A repeated stem alone, a repeated branch alone and a repeated full pillar are different levels. They should not be collapsed into the same claim.

Position and surrounding relations determine what becomes relevant
A repetition can reactivate the same Ten-God, palace or branch-relation context, but its practical importance depends on the rest of the chart and the timing layer.
Combinations, clashes, strength, season and other symbols may reinforce, redirect or limit the repeated relation. The label is the start of analysis, not the conclusion.

Repetition does not prove that history will repeat
Fu Yin cannot by itself predict bereavement, illness, litigation, job loss, separation, pregnancy, relocation or any other specific event.
