Seasonal Earth and the Month Command (四季土與月令)
Distinguish Chen, Wei, Xu, and Chou as four Earth month branches with different season, climate, hidden stems, storage, and strength conditions.
Overview
Seasonal Earth commonly refers to the four Earth branches Chen, Wei, Xu, and Chou at seasonal transitions. They are not interchangeable: Chen is damp spring Earth, Wei is warm summer Earth, Xu is dry autumn Earth, and Chou is cold winter Earth, each with distinct hidden stems and relation behavior. The month command must come from the resolved solar-term month, and any subdivision of governing qi must declare its source and convention.
At a glance

- Winter transition
- Chou: cold or damp Earth with stored qi
- Calendar basis
- Resolved solar-term month branch

- State any governing-qi subdivision used
The four Earth branches preserve different seasons
Chen, Wei, Xu, and Chou share an Earth classification but occupy different climatic transitions and contain different hidden stems.
Their moisture, temperature, storage, combinations, clashes, and phase relationships must be read separately.
- Do not merge all Earth branches.
- List each branch’s hidden contents.
Month command follows the calculated solar-term month
A civil date does not establish a seasonal Earth month; the birth instant must fall between the relevant solar-term boundaries.
When a school subdivides the month into governing-qi periods, publish that table and do not present it as the only universal convention.
- Resolve the month deterministically.
- Declare subdivision rules.
Earth strength depends on climate, roots, and relations
Fire may generate Earth, Wood may control it, Metal may receive its support, and Water may alter moisture, but each link needs effective participants.
An Earth month provides primary context without proving that every Earth symbol is strong or useful.
- Assess the specific Earth condition.
- Separate command from total strength.
Seasonal Earth is not a fixed personality or organ type
It cannot prove stability, stubbornness, digestion problems, property wealth, caretaking ability, or family outcomes.
Do not prescribe food, real estate, colors, or medical actions from an Earth month label.
- No personality or organ mapping.
- No consumption or investment advice.
