The Five Elements and the Four Seasons (五行與四季)
Map Wood, Fire, Metal, Water, and transitional Earth to solar-term seasons while preserving roots, climate, and whole-chart evidence.
Overview
Bazi uses the solar-term month to establish seasonal context: Wood is associated with spring growth, Fire with summer heat, Metal with autumn contraction, Water with winter storage, and Earth with transition and seasonal support. These associations change relative strength and climate but do not make every spring chart Wood-dominant or every winter chart Water-favorable. Exact month branch, solar-term depth, roots, exposure, and the whole chart remain necessary.

Resolve the month command from solar terms
Bazi months begin at designated solar terms, so January, April, July, and October labels do not by themselves identify the seasonal branch.
Births near a term require accurate time, place, time zone, and the adopted ephemeris before seasonal assessment.

Season changes relative support among all five phases
The commanding phase gains context, its generated phase may develop, and other phases can recede, rest, or require climate support.
These are starting tendencies. Roots, exposure, generation, control, and combinations can preserve or oppose them.

- Then test chart-specific evidence.
Earth is more than a fifth equal season
Chen, Wei, Xu, and Chou are Earth branches placed at seasonal transitions, but each carries different hidden stems and moisture-temperature conditions.
Do not merge all four into one identical Earth month or use a universal “last eighteen days” shortcut without declaring the adopted system.

Seasonal strength does not decide usefulness or outcomes
A seasonally strong phase can be excessive, needed, regulated, or irrelevant to the main chart question.
Season cannot prove health, temperament, career, wealth, or future events; it is one evidence layer in traditional analysis.
