Distinguish the Day Master as the Day Stem from the complete Day Pillar, which also contains the Day Branch, spouse-palace position, and hidden stems.
Overview
The Day Master is the Heavenly Stem at the top of the Day Pillar. The Day Pillar is the complete stem-branch pair for the effective birth date. The Day Master supplies the reference for Ten Gods and element relationships; the Day Branch supplies an immediate seat, hidden stems, and the traditional spouse-palace position. Confusing the two causes relationship labels, strength claims, and same-pillar interactions to be attributed to the wrong object.

Name the correct chart object
If the Day Pillar is 甲子, the Day Master is 甲, not 甲子 and not the Water phase of 子. The complete pillar retains both characters and their different analytical roles.
The branch can contain hidden stems and relate to the visible Day Stem. Those details belong to Day Pillar analysis, not to the definition of Day Master.

Use the Day Master to calculate relative labels
Ten Gods compare another stem or hidden stem with the Day Master by Five Phase direction and polarity. Changing the reference changes every relative label.
The Day Pillar, by contrast, is used for same-column structure, sixty-pillar identity, position, and branch interactions.

Keep the spouse palace on the branch, not the stem
Traditional spouse-palace language refers to the Day Branch beneath the Day Master. Relationship-star conventions are a separate layer and may appear in other pillars.
Neither the branch nor the complete Day Pillar proves marriage status, partner traits, or relationship outcomes. Whole-chart and real evidence remain necessary.
