Overview

A reliable Four Pillars interpretation follows dependency order. First verify the four calculated stem-branch pairs, then establish the Day Master and month command, inspect visible and hidden qi, evaluate roots and relative strength, calculate Ten Gods and interactions, and only then form structural and timing conclusions. Position supplies context, but no Year, Month, Day, or Hour label should outrank the chart evidence on which it depends.

Finish chart construction before interpretation

Resolve the birth instant, location, time zone, boundary conventions, and all four valid stem-branch pairs. A disputed Day or Hour Pillar must remain an input issue rather than being hidden by later prose.

Calculation dependencies also matter: Year Stem affects Month Stem, Day Stem affects Hour Stem, and the Day Stem becomes the reference for Ten Gods.

  • Record every boundary convention.
  • Recompute downstream fields after a corrected pillar.

Establish the Day Master and seasonal environment

Identify the exact Day Stem, then read the Month Branch as the primary seasonal command. These two facts organize relative relationships and available qi.

Next inventory roots, hidden stems, exposure, support, drain, control, and climate. Simple element totals cannot replace this weighted context.

  • Keep Day Master and month command distinct.
  • Weight season before counting symbols.

Map interactions before telling a story

Calculate Ten Gods, stem combinations, branch assemblies, clashes, punishments, harms, and breaks. Note their participants, positions, distance, strength, and possible competing relations.

Only after this map is stable should a reader test pattern, useful-function, or palace hypotheses. Counterevidence should lower confidence rather than disappear.

  • Separate relation presence from outcome.
  • Show supporting and opposing evidence.

Add timing and advice last

Luck pillars and annual pillars interact with the natal chart; they do not rewrite its original structure. Each timing claim should identify the moving and natal symbols involved.

Translate the result into conditional guidance and preserve medical, legal, financial, relationship, and third-party privacy boundaries.

  • Name the timing layer for each claim.
  • Avoid guaranteed events or dates.
