Compare the four visible Heavenly Stems by Day Master relationship, pillar position, rooting, season, and interactions without reducing them to labels.
Overview
The four Heavenly Stems are the visible upper characters of the Year, Month, Day, and Hour Pillars. The Day Stem is the Day Master; the other visible stems receive Ten God labels relative to it. Their position can scope interpretation, while season, roots in the branches, combinations, control, and support determine whether each relation is available and influential. A visible stem is not automatically dominant and a missing stem does not mean its phase is absent.

Identify every stem relative to the Day Master
Record each stem’s exact character, polarity, Five Phase, pillar position, and Ten God relation. The Day Stem remains the reference and is not assigned a Ten God to itself in the same way.
Repeated stems preserve separate positions even when their character matches. Do not merge them into one count before checking roots and relations.

Trace each visible stem to supporting branches
A stem may root in the branch beneath it or elsewhere in the chart. Rooting can be direct, remote, seasonally strong, weak, combined, or disrupted depending on the adopted method.
A stem without an obvious root can still receive generation or appear in timing. “Unrooted” is a structural observation, not automatic disappearance.

Read stem relations alongside branch conditions
Generation, control, and Five Combinations among visible stems describe potential connections. Transformation requires stricter season and support conditions than the mere presence of a pair.
Branch relations can strengthen, redirect, or obstruct what the stems appear to show. Both rows must remain in the same evidence map.

Do not turn visible stems into fixed social roles
A visible Wealth, Officer, Resource, Output, or Peer relation does not prove income, occupation, education, behavior, or a specific person. It identifies a chart relationship.
Use pillar position and real context to frame a hypothesis, then preserve uncertainty and professional boundaries.
