What Is Friend in BaZi?
Friend shares the Day Master’s element and polarity. Learn when it supports a weak Day Master and when Companion strength competes for Wealth.
Overview
Friend is the Ten God with the same element and polarity as the Day Master, such as another Jia Wood for a Jia Wood Day Master. It adds Companion strength and may support or intensify Wealth competition depending on the chart’s balance.

How is the Friend star identified?
A stem or hidden stem with the same element and polarity as the Day Master is Friend. Jia meeting another Jia and Yi meeting another Yi are Friend relationships; same element with opposite polarity is Rob Wealth.
The label describes parallel elemental force, not a literal sibling, friend or competitor. Human relationships require house position, other Ten Gods and real context.

When does Friend support the Day Master?
A weak or unrooted Day Master may gain capacity from Friend and become better able to handle Wealth, Officer and Output. If the Day Master is already strong, excessive Companion force may require release or control.
Season, roots, visibility and existing Resource support determine the actual weight. One seasonally strong Friend can matter more than several unsupported ones.

Does Friend always divide Wealth?
Friend and the Day Master both control the Wealth element, so they can represent competition or distribution when Wealth is important. That structural relation does not predict a friend taking money.
For a weak Day Master, Friend may first provide the strength needed to manage Wealth. Competition becomes more prominent when Companions are excessive, Wealth is isolated and Officer control or Output flow is insufficient.

Limits of autonomy and cooperation readings
Friend can symbolize peers, parallel effort and self-support, but autonomy, cooperation and competition are not determined by one Ten God. Officer, Output, Wealth, Resource and houses all modify expression.
Responsible analysis explains how Companion strength affects balance before discussing life themes. It should not label someone stubborn, self-centered or socially successful.
