Same- vs. Opposite-Polarity Ten Gods (同異性十神)
Compare same-polarity and opposite-polarity relationships across all five Ten-God pairs while keeping force, visibility, and usefulness separate.
Overview
Same-polarity and opposite-polarity describe whether the compared stem matches the Day Master’s yin-yang polarity. The distinction selects one label within each functional pair, but no single plain-English rule describes every pair. Readers should derive the exact label first, then assess season, roots, position, interactions, and purpose.
At a glance
- Comparison base
- Day Master polarity
- Same polarity
- Both stems are yin or both are yang
- Opposite polarity
- One stem is yin and the other is yang
- Function
- Selects one name in each pair
- Not measured
- Strength and usefulness
- Sensitive boundary
- Not biological sex or relationship orientation
Polarity agreement is a deterministic comparison
Read the polarity values of the Day Master and the compared stem; equal values are same-polarity and unequal values are opposite-polarity.
The wording is relational, so a yang stem is not always a same-polarity Ten God.
- State both stem polarities.
- Calculate rather than infer from the label.
Map the result through the full five-direction table
The polarity result only becomes a Ten-God name after the phase direction is known.
Use the canonical mapping for companion, output, wealth, authority, and resource rather than a vague direct-versus-indirect rule.
- Determine phase direction first.
- Resolve the precise paired name second.
Do not confuse polarity with operating strength
A label can be visible but unrooted, hidden but seasonally commanding, or constrained by combinations and control.
Those facts determine how available it is; polarity only explains why it belongs to one member of the pair.
- Keep classification and capacity separate.
- Report supporting and limiting evidence.
Same and opposite do not describe real-world sexuality
The terms do not identify biological sex, gender, attraction, marital preference, or compatibility.
They also do not establish conflict or harmony between people with matching or different polarities.
- Avoid sexual and gender inferences.
- Use observed relationship evidence.
