Useful God under Restraint (用神受制)
Learn how control, draining, combination, blockage, or exhaustion can restrain a Useful God and how to assess protection, rescue, and net function.
Overview
A Useful God under Restraint (用神受制) is a selected role whose capacity is materially reduced by a named controlling, draining, combining, blocking, or exhausting mechanism. Restraint must be demonstrated through an operating path and relative strength; a nominal overcoming relation is not enough. Protection, source support, mediation, rescue, position, and timing can preserve or restore part of the function, so the conclusion should be graded rather than absolute.
At a glance
- Mechanism
- Control, drain, combination, blockage, or exhaustion is named
- Threshold
- The restraining force must be operationally effective
- Protection
- Source, root, mediation, or rescue may preserve function
- Net effect
- Partial reduction and total unavailability are distinct
- Timing
- Restraint may be natal or period-limited
- Boundary
- Restraint does not prove external oppression
Name the mechanism that limits the Useful God
Identify the restraining stem or branch, relation type, location, and chart layer.
Do not infer effective restraint from a textbook generating or overcoming arrow without checking season, roots, access, and distance.
- Show the operating relation.
- Reject nominal-only control.
Audit source, protection, and rescue
Check whether another force generates the Useful God, controls the restrainer, mediates the conflict, or supplies an intact root.
Account for the cost of rescue and whether the same support is already committed elsewhere.
- Trace each rescue route.
- Avoid double counting support.
Report the remaining function and its duration
State whether the role is weakened, delayed, redirected, conditionally usable, or unavailable for the selected task.
If timing creates the restraint, attach the relevant period and keep the natal grade visible.
- Use a bounded grade.
- Preserve chart-layer provenance.
Keep restraint separate from life narratives
用神受制 does not prove that a person is controlled, blocked, abused, unhealthy, unlucky, or unable to succeed.
Those are separate claims that require direct evidence and appropriate support.
- No psychological projection.
- No deterministic event claim.
