How are the Ten Gods used in personality reading?

Read the Ten Gods as relationships between the Day Master and other stems, conditioned by location, strength, structure, and context—not as fixed personality types.

Overview

The Ten Gods are relational labels calculated from Five-Element production or control and yin-yang polarity relative to the Day Master. They organize recurring functions such as support, expression, resources, authority, and peer dynamics. They are not ten personality types. For personality questions, calculate every visible and hidden Ten God, then assess season, roots, position, combinations, control, pattern, useful functions, and competing evidence. Translate clusters into contextual hypotheses and avoid moral, clinical, or predictive labels.

Calculate the relationship before interpreting the name

Each Ten God follows from whether another stem shares, produces, is produced by, controls, or is controlled by the Day Master, plus matching or opposite polarity.

Expand hidden stems and preserve their branch carriers. A label in a hidden stem does not have the same access as a revealed stem.

  • Derive every label from the same Day Master.
  • Keep visible and hidden evidence distinct.

Read configurations rather than dictionary traits

Month command, roots, strength, pillar position, combinations, control, pattern, and useful functions change how a Ten-God relation participates in the chart.

Direct Officer is not automatically disciplined, Rob Wealth is not automatically selfish, and Hurting Officer is not automatically rebellious. Names are technical relations, not verdicts.

  • Name the supporting conditions for each hypothesis.
  • Include configurations that limit the expression.

Translate clusters into situational questions

A supported Resource–Companion cluster may prompt questions about learning and reliance on established knowledge; an Output–Wealth flow may prompt questions about converting ideas into practical value.

Ask how the pattern appears at work, in study, under conflict, or in private. The same person may respond differently across contexts and over time.

  • Use one functional cluster at a time.
  • Ask for both confirming and disconfirming examples.

Do not moralize or diagnose Ten-God labels

Ten Gods cannot establish honesty, intelligence, violence, loyalty, mental health, disability, sexuality, criminality, or another protected or high-stakes trait.

Do not use them to screen employees, students, partners, patients, or applicants. Appropriate decisions require consent, relevant evidence, and qualified assessment.

  • Technical names are not moral labels.
  • Never use Bazi as automated profiling.
