Advancement Spirit (進神)
Learn the four Advancement Spirit Day Pillars in San Ming Tong Hui, how to test a match, and why the term differs from its Six Lines namesake.
Overview
In the progression, exchange, retreat, and concealment system recorded by San Ming Tong Hui, Advancement Spirit means four complete Day Pillars: Jia-Zi, Ji-Mao, Jia-Wu, and Ji-You. A match uses the birth Day Pillar, not any isolated Jia, Ji, Zi, or Mao elsewhere in the chart.

The four Day Pillars in the classical list
The text names Jia-Zi, Ji-Mao, Jia-Wu, and Ji-You as the four Advancement Spirit days. Each item is a complete Stem-Branch pair.
A matching character in the Year, Month, or Hour Pillar does not satisfy this rule. The Day Pillar itself must first be established under a documented timezone and day-boundary policy.
- Compare the complete Day Pillar with all four entries.
- Do not split the list into standalone stems or branches.
How the four-state framework changes the reading
Advancement appears together with exchange, retreat, and concealment. It is a classification system rather than a standalone ranking of lucky people.
Older imagery about progress and withdrawal belongs to that textual framework. It should not be converted directly into a forecast of a promotion, market move, or date of success.
- Keep all four states visible in source commentary.
- Treat imagery as interpretation, not an event guarantee.
Do not import the Six Lines formula
Six Lines divination also uses the names advancement and retreat, but it compares the Earthly Branch sequence of a moving line and its changed line. This BaZi entry checks a natal Day Pillar.
The two systems have different inputs and algorithms. A result should therefore identify the divination system, reference symbol, and rule version before showing a label.
- Identify the system before applying a table.
- Do not share an unlabeled algorithm across systems.
Advancement Spirit is not an upward-outcome guarantee
A matching day cannot establish that someone will advance, become wealthy, win a competition, or receive a promotion. Skills, resources, decisions, and actual timing still govern those outcomes.
OpenFate does not currently calculate this marker. The page preserves a checkable historical definition without turning it into a personal success score.
- Use real evidence for career and financial decisions.
- Do not label a person successful or unsuccessful from this day alone.
