Flying Blade is commonly derived by locating Yang Blade for the Day Stem and then taking the Earthly Branch directly opposite it. Because schools disagree about Yang Blade for Yin Stems—using the branch before Lu, the imperial-prosperity branch, or no Yin-Stem rule—Flying Blade also requires an explicit base-table version.

How Flying Blade is calculated from Yang Blade

The usual workflow first identifies the Yang Blade branch for the Day Stem, then selects the branch in direct Six Clash opposition. If a version places Jia’s Yang Blade at Mao, You becomes the Flying Blade.

This is a two-stage derivation, not an independent list to memorize. The output should expose the base table, Day Stem, intermediate Yang Blade branch, and matched chart pillar.

  • Calculate Yang Blade before applying the clash pair.
  • Show the base version and intermediate value.

Why two calculators may disagree

Yang-Stem blade positions are comparatively stable, while Yin-Stem methods may use the branch before Lu, the imperial-prosperity branch, or omit Yin-Stem blades. A different base position necessarily changes the opposite branch.

Compare the Yang Blade definition, whether Year or Day Stem is referenced, and which pillars are searched before calling a result wrong. These are rule-version differences, not presentation details.

  • Store school differences in the calculation version.
  • Leave the result unresolved when the base table is unspecified.

The blade name does not replace chart analysis

Classical blade discussion weighs strength, control, clashes, and pillar location. A derived label alone cannot show whether a relationship is active or useful.

Read Day Master capacity, Month Command, roots, Ten Gods, and actual context first. Flying Blade can only be a low-weight, version-labelled note after that work.

  • Complete the structural reading before the auxiliary marker.
  • Avoid counting Yang Blade and its clash twice.

Do not literalize the word blade

Flying Blade cannot prove future bleeding, surgery, traffic injury, crime, violence, or legal trouble. Blood donation is not an evidence-based way to neutralize a chart label.
