Overview

San Ming Tong Hui lists nine complete day pillars under the historical name Nine Uglies: Ren-Zi, Ren-Wu, Wu-Zi, Wu-Wu, Ji-You, Ji-Mao, Yi-Mao, Xin-You, and Xin-Mao. The term preserves a classical category, not a valid judgment about beauty, morality, pregnancy, or life outcome.

The nine day pillars in the source

San Ming Tong Hui, volume three, gives 壬子 Ren-Zi, 壬午 Ren-Wu, 戊子 Wu-Zi, 戊午 Wu-Wu, 己酉 Ji-You, 己卯 Ji-Mao, 乙卯 Yi-Mao, 辛酉 Xin-You, and 辛卯 Xin-Mao. A match requires the natal day pillar to equal one of these nine pairs.

A Zi branch or Xin stem elsewhere in the chart does not count. The rule concerns one complete calendrical day in the sexagenary cycle, so both the stem and branch must be verified after the birth date and time are calculated correctly.

  • Compare the complete day pillar with the nine-pair list.
  • Do not search every pillar for isolated matching characters.

Why the name needs historical context

The translated name sounds like a judgment of physical appearance, but the source embeds the category in moralized language about harm, sexuality, and gender. That vocabulary belongs to its historical setting and should not be repeated as a factual description of a modern person.

OpenFate retains 九丑 as the searchable source term while explaining its limits. Renaming it without the Chinese term would hide the textual trail; repeating its insults without critique would reproduce harm.

  • Preserve the source name for identification, not endorsement.
  • Explain harmful historical language instead of modernizing it into a verdict.

A day label cannot replace chart analysis

Even inside traditional Bazi, a day category cannot replace month command, Day-Master strength, structure, useful elements, Ten Gods, and stem-branch interactions. The source itself later warns that Fate Stars require contextual weighing rather than fixed good-or-bad conclusions.

The current OpenFate engine does not calculate Nine Uglies. This page documents the list for research and correction, not as a hidden score that alters reports or user profiles.

  • Treat the category as secondary to the full chart.
  • Do not imply an unimplemented marker affects OpenFate reports.

Appearance, health, and relationship boundaries

Nine Uglies cannot establish attractiveness, disability, sexual behavior, fertility, pregnancy risk, fidelity, or relationship quality. These are sensitive facts that cannot be inferred from a traditional day label.

For medical or reproductive questions, use qualified clinical care. For relationships, rely on consent, communication, conduct, and safety. Never use this category for ridicule, screening, discrimination, or accusations.

  • Do not infer a protected or sensitive trait from the day pillar.
  • Keep health and relationship decisions grounded in real evidence.
