Gu Chen uses the year branch: Hai-Zi-Chou finds Yin, Yin-Mao-Chen finds Si, Si-Wu-Wei finds Shen, and Shen-You-Xu finds Hai. It marks the forward corner beyond a seasonal group and cannot determine personality, marriage, or family bonds on its own.

The four year-branch rules for Gu Chen
Place the birth-year branch in one of four seasonal trios, then move to the corner branch immediately beyond that trio. The targets are Yin, Si, Shen, and Hai in seasonal order.
A target must appear in the natal branches to register. Gu Chen and Gua Su come from the same framework but use different targets, so a calculator should report them separately.

The classical source includes contextual exceptions
San Ming Tong Hui places the marker at a seasonal corner and cites traditions that do not apply the solitary reading when branches connect, assemble, or receive supportive configurations.
A responsible interpretation therefore checks combinations, meetings, clashes, and the role of the target branch before discussing any life theme.

A need for space is not a prediction of loneliness
At most, Gu Chen can prompt reflection on autonomy, personal boundaries, or preferred ways of spending time alone. It is not a fixed personality diagnosis.
Loneliness, social support, and relationship stability depend on environment, communication, choices, and resources. A chart label cannot replace that evidence.

Marriage, family, and mental-health boundary

Relationship concerns require direct communication, observable behavior, and suitable professional support. The label must never be used to blame, exclude, or control someone.
