What Is Robbery Sha in BaZi?
Robbery Sha uses the year or day branch’s trine group to find an absolute-stage branch. Learn the rule, contextual reading and limits on loss predictions.
Overview
Robbery Sha (劫煞) uses the year or day branch: Shen-Zi-Chen seeks Si, Yin-Wu-Xu seeks Hai, Si-You-Chou seeks Yin, and Hai-Mao-Wei seeks Shen. It is a traditional disruption symbol, not proof of theft, violence, bankruptcy or loss.

How is Robbery Sha derived?
The classical rule starts from the Three Harmony group of the year or day branch and selects the branch where that group’s phase reaches its absolute stage: Si, Hai, Yin or Shen.
OpenFate checks the target across the four pillars and preserves the reference source. This prevents a generic risk label from hiding how the match was obtained.
- Identify the reference trine group before the target.
- Show the matched pillar and whether year or day produced it.
Disruption must be read through the chart
The name evokes something taken from outside, while the underlying rule points to a phase transition. In a restrained reading it may frame competition, interruption or resource pressure.
Whether that theme is relevant depends on Wealth, Companion, Officer and Output relations, as well as timing. The marker alone cannot identify the event, person or outcome.
- Tie any interpretation to visible chart relationships.
- Avoid naming a perpetrator, victim or event from the star.
Risk language without fatalism
Some traditional texts use severe language for Jie Sha, but also describe different outcomes when official, noble or supporting structures are present. That internal variation argues against one-line doom readings.
Modern wording should focus on managing competition, boundaries and avoidable exposure. It should not create fear or claim that loss is destined.
- Present both restrictive and constructive contexts.
- Frame caution as practical risk management, not prophecy.
Financial, legal and safety limits
Robbery Sha cannot forecast crime, litigation, financial loss or physical danger. Security decisions should follow actual threats, contracts, controls and qualified advice.
If a user reports real coercion, theft or abuse, respond to the evidence and seek appropriate help. A chart marker is irrelevant to whether the concern deserves action.
- Do not use Jie Sha to accuse or profile anyone.
- Act on observed risk regardless of whether the marker appears.
