Useful-God Complementarity in Bazi Compatibility
Derive useful functions independently for both charts, compare conditional support without transferring elements between people, and preserve method disagreement.
Overview
Useful-God complementarity in Bazi compatibility (合婚中的喜用神互補, Hé Hūn Zhōng De Xǐ Yòng Shén Hù Bǔ) asks whether functions emphasized in one chart resemble functions judged favorable in the other. It is not a transfer of qi, a cure for a missing element, or proof that a partner is someone’s Useful God. First state the useful-god method and derive each chart independently from Month Command, structure, strength, climate, circulation, and counterevidence. Then compare actual functions, not just element labels or counts. Different methods can select different priorities, and no person is an instrument for repairing another chart.

Derive both useful-function assessments independently
For each chart, record the method, Month Command, seasonal climate, Day-Master capacity, structure, circulation, illness-remedy logic, and evidence against the selected function.
Do not select a favorable element after seeing the partner’s chart. If two recognized methods disagree, keep both results and their conditions visible.

Compare operative functions rather than color labels
Ask whether a recurring relationship context resembles support, drainage, restraint, warming, cooling, moistening, or circulation that one chart needs. Distinguish symbolic resemblance from real behavior.
The mere presence of Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water in one chart does not make it available to the other. Quantity, root, season, position, and function remain chart-specific.

Cross-check other compatibility layers and actual interaction
Compare Day Masters, Day Pillars, spouse palaces, stem-branch contacts, and timing separately. Useful-function resemblance does not override contradictory natal or cross-chart evidence.
Real support must be observed through conduct, communication, consent, and shared plans. A symbolic match cannot establish that someone provides what the other needs.

Do not make a person responsible for repairing a chart
The framework cannot prove a perfect partner, healing relationship, financial success, health benefit, dependence, marriage, or permanence. It must not justify controlling someone’s work, appearance, diet, or choices.
Describe complementarity as a conditional symbolic theme. Both people remain autonomous and may choose different ways to meet practical needs.
